All of our puppies are sold with written health guarantees.
Companion/pet puppies are sold on spay/neuter contract & must be altered.
Our show prospects are sold on a show contract which include guidelines that the owners must meet. We have no details about future breedings but are always happy to talk Akitas.

Moonlight Akitas are only bred if they are of sound temperament and health certified. They enjoy giving lots of kisses and like attention. They are easily trained and very responsive to the enforcement needed to insure a great dog. A quality dog takes a good amount of discipline with a respectful, loving hand and environment. Moonlight Akitas does NOT encourage all people interested in an Akita to actually acquire an Akita. Since the Akita is one of the most dignified and beautiful canines available, many prospective canine owners seek to learn more about the breed. Some of these potential Akita owners are going to be much better off with a Labrador, German Shepherd, or a smaller dog. If you desire an extremely obedient dog that always comes when called, a dog that can always be off leash at the park, and a dog that will be by your side craving attention—then an Akita is not for you. When considering a breeding at Tanager Akitas, soundness in health and temperament are of utmost importance. I put every effort into producing puppies that are free of genetic defects so that they are able to live a full life without the heartbreak of debilitating health problems. Each dog used in my breeding program must be certified free of hip dysplasia (OFA/PennHip) and eye disease (CERF), and be thyroid normal. All my puppies are raised in my house with love and training to encourage their gentle spirit, setting them on the path of becoming loyal and loving family members.

We are Akita Breeders in Maryland, we offer Akita puppies for sale to approved qualified lifetime homes only. Breedings are done on a limited basis. Timing is everything when planning for a litter. Because the females typically only come in season twice a year and are usually only bred once to just a couple of times during their lives, puppies are not always available.
